I avoiding reading this book as i thought it was going to be a disappointment after all the hype it had. But i saw it for 50p in a charity shop i thought i'd give it a chance and packed it into the hand luggage.
It is narrated by Elly and split into 2 parts, when she is a young girl and then when she is in her late 20's. It read like an autobiography, but it isn't. It covers the 70's and 9/11, has homosexuality and neglect sub plots but also manages to make you laugh out loud.
I was unsure of what i thought about this book once i had read it, yes it has some great moments but sometimes the bits in between were awkward. i think it would have been better with slightly less story lines and develop the remaining ones.
over all i will give this 3.5 out of 5.
